In celebration of Women’s History Month, we proudly recognize a familiar face at the St. Croix Educational Complex-Dr. Valrica Bryson. A true icon in education and the arts, Dr. Bryson has left an indelible mark on generations of students, shaping the cultural and musical landscape of the Virgin Islands.

A decorated 20-year U.S. Army veteran, her dedication was recognized when she won the prestigious title of 2007 State Teacher of the Year. A true champion of Virgin Islands culture, Dr. Bryson played a pivotal role in revitalizing Quelbe music and quadrille dancing in local schools. Many of her protégés have gone on to become educators and musicians themselves, a testament to her mentorship.

Dr. Bryson has also ventured into the literary world with her book “Rica & the Tamarind Tree”, the first in a captivating series that reflects her deep roots in both her native Aruba and her childhood home of St. Croix.
