This month, we celebrate a woman whose journey of healing blossomed into a thriving farm—and a lasting family legacy. A proud graduate of the Vocational Program at the St. Croix Educational Complex, Jenny aka “Farmer Hibiscus” carries a deep love for the land, her community, and her culture.

While at Complex, Jenny earned a Computer Information Systems Certification and gained valuable hands-on experience through on-the-job training at the local telephone company. She recalls Skip Day with a smile, laughing at the memory of her entire class filling up Cane Bay. Beneath the joy and teenage fun was a young woman quietly determined to carve her own path—even when life took unexpected turns.

Brathwaite’s Garden Farm was born from grief—and grew through love. After the loss of her beloved mother and best friend, she turned to the soil for solace. What began with a pickaxe and a prayer evolved into a sanctuary of herbs, vegetables, and hope. Today, the farm offers handcrafted teas, herbal syrups, healing oils, juices, and leafy greens—all grown and prepared with intention, knowledge, and care.

After raising her children, she stepped into her dream of becoming an educator. As a Career Specialist, she empowered students through community service projects, public speaking, and real-world internships. Today, she continues to make an impact as the District Registrar for the St. Croix School District—merging her tech background with her passion for purpose-driven work. And on the weekends? She becomes Farmer Hibiscus, cultivating healing through Brathwaite’s Garden Farm alongside her family.

Farming wasn’t part of the original plan—but it became her calling. Researching anti-cancer herbs after her mother’s passing sparked a passion for preventative wellness. From vervain and basil to collards and mint, every plant is grown with love—and every product is crafted to support community wellness.

“Don’t stress about having it all figured out. Stay open, trust yourself, and don’t let fear hold you back. You’ll be an amazing mom someday— and so much more.”

“You’re more powerful than you think. Dream big, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to take the road less traveled. Your roots are strong—use them!”

Catch Brathwaite’s Garden Farm every Saturday at the Agriculture Booth #44 or at events like Tart Wars, Food Fair, and the Ag Fair.
